Security specialist company ESTsecurity (CEO Jung Jin-il) revealed the results of a 'security environment inspection survey' conducted in celebration of 'Information Protection Month' in July on the 25th.

This survey targeted 9,431 PC users from June 29th to July 13th, as a means to check the security environment within companies amidst the ongoing outflow of core technologies from domestic to foreign hands.

The survey questions included ▲The state of security and management of important/confidential materials ▲Personal security awareness of users ▲The current status of information protection education in companies and institutions.

According to the survey, while individual security consciousness in the domestic security environment is well maintained, the continuous attention of companies and institutions from an educational standpoint is relatively lacking.

In fact, among the respondents who participated in this survey, only 29.5% stated that they are well-informed about the company's information protection policies and regulations, while 54.3% knew only basic information, and 16.1% said they 'do not know well'.

Additionally, for the question regarding whether regular information protection education is conducted, 26% responded 'it is not conducted', and 20.4% responded 'do not know', indicating that nearly half of the respondents are not properly receiving education.

However, the majority of respondents indicated that important materials are being well-managed to prevent company leakage and loss of confidential information, and it was also found that individuals are keeping their PC operating systems up to date for security, or using antivirus programs at a high rate.

An ESTsecurity official stated, “The absence of information protection education not only directly leads to inadequate security management by individuals, but can also result in the leaking of core technologies, assets of companies and the nation. Therefore, there is an urgent need for the recognition and systemic establishment of security education, and this requires active efforts by more companies and related institutions,” he conveyed.
